Ingredients
  • 1 c flour
  • 1 c cornmeal
  • ¼ c sugar
  • 1 T baking powder
  • ¾ tsp salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 eggs
  • ⅓ c oil
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 400.
  2. Combine dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl. In a small bowl, combine egg, milk and oil and whip with a fork.
  3. Take milk mixture and start pouring over the dry mixture, use a fork to barely moisten the dry mixture.
  4. Pour into a well greased 8×8 pan.
  5. Bake for 25 minutes.
  6. Serve with honey butter.

Ingredients
  • 1½ c warm water
  • 2 T sugar
  • 1 T yeast
  • 3½ c flour
  • 1 t salt
  • Topping
  • 1 cube melted butter
  • 1 clove minced garlic
  • parsley flakes
  • grated Parmesan cheese
  • kosher
Instructions
  1. Dissolve yeast in water and sugar and let stand for 5 minutes.
  2. Mix until smooth then let raise for 10 minutes.
  3. Roll out dough into a large square on a floured surface.
  4. Brush with melted (real) butter mixed with minced garlic and then sprinkle with kosher salt.
  5. Fold in half and cut into 1 inch strips.
  6. Twist and place on a cooking sheet.
  7. Let sit for 15 to 20 minutes to raise.
  8. Bake at 400 degrees for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. Immediately after baking, brush with more garlic butter and sprinkle with kosher salt, parsley flakes, and grated Parmesan cheese.
  10. Serve with marinara, Alfredo sauce, or ranch for dipping.
  11. Dough also makes a great pizza dough, just roll out into a large circle, add your favorite toppings, and bake at 400 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes.

Ingredients
  • 1 c sugar
  • ½ c oil or shortening
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 c flour
  • 1 t soda
  • ½ t salt
  • 3 ripe bananas mashed
  • 1 c walnuts chopped
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 325.
  2. In a medium mixing bowl, combine sugar, oil, and eggs.
  3. Mix well.
  4. Add soda, salt, mashed bananas, and flour, continue mixing, then add nuts.
  5. Makes 1 loaf.
  6. Pour mixture into a greased loaf pan. Bake for 1 hour 10 minutes or until done.

  • ⅔ c sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • ⅓ c shortening
  • 1 c mashed bananas
  • ½ t baking powder
  • 2 t baking baking soda
  • ½ t salt
  • 1¾ c flour
  • ¼ c walnuts (optional)
Instructions
  1. Add all the ingredients in a bowl in the order given.
  2. Mix well.
  3. Pour batter into a greased bread pan.
  4. Makes 1 loaf.
  5. Bake at 350 for 45 minutes.

 

Pita Pocket Bread

Ingredients
  • 1 tbsp. yeast
  • 1 tbsp. honey
  • 2½ c. warm water
  • 1½ tsp. salt
  • 1 tbsp. oil
  • 6 to 7 c. whole wheat flour
Instructions
  1. Dissolve yeast and honey in warm water.
  2. Once dissolved and bubbly, add salt, oil and 6 cups flour and mix well.
  3. Knead dough for 5 to 10 minutes, adding more flour if necessary.
  4. Let the dough rise until it has doubled in size (about 1 hour).
  5. Punch down the dough and divide into 12 equal size pieces.
  6. Roll each into a ball and roll out on a floured surface until they are about ¼ inch thick.
  7. Place circles on greased cookie sheets and let them rest 30 to 45 minutes.
  8. Heat the oven to 450 degrees.
  9. Just before baking, turn the pitas over and bake them for 8 to 10 minutes or until they are puffed in the middle and only slightly browned.

Ingredients
  • ¼ C. butter
  • 1 C. sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 2 C. flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • ½ tsp. baking soda
  • ½ tsp. salt
  • 1 C. sour milk
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
Instructions
  1. To sour the milk, add 1 tsp. of vinegar to the milk and let stand for a few moments.
  2. Preheat the oven to 350.
  3. Cream the butter and sugar together and add eggs and vanilla to the mixture.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine and mix all of the dry ingredients.
  5. mix the dry mixture and the sour milk alternately into the cream mixture and mix well.
  6. Pour half of the mixture into a greased loaf pan.
  7. Combine 1 tbsp. cinnamon and 3 tbsp. brown sugar and spread over the mixture in the loaf pan.
  8. Top with remaining mixture.
  9. Cut through the batter with a knife several times to swirl the cinnamon mixture throughout.
  10. Bake at 350 for 1 hour.

  • 1 c. Amish friendship bread starter
  • ⅔ C. oil
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 C. flour
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • ½ tsp. baking soda
  • ½ tsp. salt
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1½ tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 C. sugar
Instructions
  1. In mixing bowl, combine all ingredients.
  2. Bake in 2 well greased and floured 9x5 bread pans.
  3. Bake at 350 for 40 to 45 minutes.

 

Amish Friendship Bread Starter

Ingredients
  • 1 pkg. active dry yeast
  • 3 c. sugar
  • 3 c. flour
  • 3 c. milk
Instructions
  1. On Day 1: Soften yeast mixture in ¼ cup of lukewarm water. Set aside for 5 minutes, then stir well to be sure it has dissolved.
  2. In a glass or plastic bowl, combine 1 cup sugar, 1 cup flour and 1 cup milk. Stir in yeast mixture using a wooden spoon. Cover bowl loosely with cloth and Keep at room temperature. Do Not Refrigerate.
  3. On Days 2, 3 and 4: Using wooden or plastic spoon, stir mixture once each day.
  4. On Day 5: Add 1 cup sugar, 1 cup flour and 1 cup milk; stir.
  5. On Days 6, 7, 8 and 9: Using wooden or plastic spoon, stir mixture once each day.
  6. On Day 10: Add 1 cup sugar, 1 cup flour and 1 cup milk. Remove 3 cups of mixture and give 1 cup each to three friends. Save remaining starter for yourself.

Ingredients
  • 2 c. all purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • ½ tsp. salt
  • ½ tsp. cinnamon
  • 1.2 tsp. ginger
  • ⅓ c. butter
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 egg
  • ⅓ c. orange juice
  • ¾ c. raisins
  • 1 c. minced apples
  • 1 tbsp. grated orange rind
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
  3. In a mixing bowl, mix together shortening, sugar and egg and beat thoroughly.
  4. Mix together all of the dry ingredients, orange juice and remaining ingredients mixing thoroughly.
  5. Grease two loaf pans and fill both about ¾ full with batter.
  6. Bake at 350°F for about 45 minutes or until done.

  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 c. flour
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 c. nuts, chopped
  • ½ c. shortening
  • ½ c. milk
  • ¼ tsp. baking soda
  • Dash of salt
Instructions
  1. Combine all ingredients mixing them to a batter.
  2. Grease a bread pan and put in the batter.
  3. Bake in 350 degree oven for 1 hour and 15 minutes until toothpick comes out clean.

 

Monkey Bread

Ingredients
  • 3 packages of buttermilk biscuit tubes
  • 1 cup sugar (divided)
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1 cup butter
  • ½ cup brown sugar
Instructions
  1. Take 3 packages of buttermilk biscuit tubes (10 per roll) and cut each roll into 4 pieces. Drop roll pieces into 1 cup sugar and 2 teaspoons cinnamon. Gently place sugar-coated pieces into a well buttered Bundt pan being careful not to press them together.
  2. Put ½ cup of the left-over sugar/cinnamon mix and ½ cup packed brown sugar and 1 cup of butter (2 sticks) into a small saucepan.
  3. Bring this mixture just to a boil and remove from heat. Drizzle the Sauce over the roll pieces.
  4. Bake at 350°F for 30 minutes.
  5. Goes GREAT with Coffee.

Ingredients
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • ½ tsp. baking soda
  • 1 c. Cheddar cheese grated
  • 1 c. sour cream
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 500°F
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and baking soda.
  3. Add grated cheese and sour cream to flour mixture and mix well.
  4. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured board and knead gently for 1-2 minutes. Roll out to a ¾ inch thickness. Cut out with a biscuit cutter dipped in flour.
  5. Bake for 10 minutes on a greased cookie sheet until golden brown.

 

Bunuelos

Ingredients
  • 3⅓ c. flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1½ tbsp. sugar
  • ¼ c. butter
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ c. milk
  • Salad oil for deep frying
Instructions
  1. Sift flour, with salt, baking powder, and sugar into a bowl. Add butter and rub into flour with your fingertips until mixture is like coarse meal. Beat eggs lightly with milk, then pour into flour mixture and stir until dough forms a solid mass. Turn dough out onto board, and knead lightly for 2 minutes or until smooth. Cut dough into balls the size of marbles and let stand 15 minutes.
  2. Roll each ball on a lightly floured board into a very thin pancake 4 inches in diameter. Cut a hole in center with a thimble. After rolling out the circles of dough, place them in a single layer on waxed paper until ready to cook.
  3. Fry in hot deep fat (375 degrees) until puffed and golden brown, about 30 seconds on each side.
  4. Mix 1 cup granulated sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon in a bowl. As bunuelos are still warm, shake in sugar mixture.

 

Sopapillas

Ingredients
  • 2 c. flour
  • 3 tsp. baking powder
  • ½ tsp. salt
  • 1 tbsp. shortening
  • Oil for deep frying
Instructions
  1. Sift dry ingredients together in bowl.
  2. Cut in shortening until crumbly. Add ½ cup warm water gradually, stirring with fork.
  3. Dough will be crumbly.
  4. Turn onto lightly floured surface.
  5. Knead until smooth.
  6. Divide in half. Let stand for 10 minutes.
  7. Cut into 3" squares.
  8. Fry, several at a time, in deep fat at 400 degrees for 30 seconds on each side.

Ingredients
  • 3 c. self-rising flour, sifted
  • ½ c. butter, melted
  • ⅓ c. sugar
  • milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 400°F degrees.
  2. Cut butter into the flour using your fingers until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in sugar, baking powder, and beaten eggs
  3. Add enough milk to form a sticky dough, turn out onto a lightly floured board and knead approximately 10 turns. Do not over-knead, as this will make the scones tough.
  4. Flatten to a circular shape, about 1½" in thickness and cut wedge shaped pieces. Arrange pieces 1 inch apart in a circle on a lightly greased pan. Brush tops with cream or beaten egg white and bake about 15 minutes or until golden.
