In Dutch, this is called Bouterkoek. It is one of my family's favorites.
Ingredients
- 1½ cup flower (Dutch word for flour is bloem, which also means flower. See comments below)
- 1 t. baking powder
- ¼ t. salt
- ¾ cup sugar
- 1 cube butter or margarine
- 1 egg yolk (needed for the top)
- 1 egg white
- 1 t. almond extract
Instructions
- Mix all ingredients together (mix the dry ingredients first) by hand and press into a greased 10 inch cake or pie pan.
- Brush the top with 1 egg yolk and sprinkle with sliced almonds.
- Bake at 300 degrees Fahrenheit for thirty minutes.
